Located on the beautiful Cat Ba Island, the Cat Ba National Park is in the South side of Halong Bay, only 25 kilometers far from Halong and 30 kilometers far from the center of Hai Phong. The Cat Ba National Park is surrounded by Gia Luan Commune in the Northside, Halong Bay in the Eastside, Cat Ba Island as well as the following communes like Xuan Dam Commune, Tran Chau Commune and Hien Hao Commune in the Westside.

The Cat Ba National Park has a total area of 26240 ha, in which, 17040 ha of land and 9200 ha of the water surface. This destination contains many ecosystems such as the mangrove swamp ecosystem, forests on limestone mountains ecosystem, ocean ecosystem with ranges of coral, etc.

Coming to the Cat Ba National Park, visitors will have a chance to witness ranges of specific forest on limestone mountains. Most of the forests in the Cat Ba National Park are the tropical evergreen rainforests, but due to the topographical conditions as well as the water system here, Cat Ba National Park also has a few additional types of forest such as forest on limestone mountains, the mangrove swamp by the shore of the island, etc.

In addition, Cat Ba National Park also possesses many precious trees such as tembusu, chukrasia, yellow flametree, desmos chinensis, etc which only appear in Himalaya mountains. Especially, in Trung Giang Area, there is a forest of an endemic plant species-the Nageia fleuryi (or also called the Kim Giao tree in Vietnamese). Not only bearing the environmental value, but the Cat Ba National Park also owns the historical value since researchers have found a lot of vestiges of human appearance here, which states the existence of the human in this area about 6000 to 7000 years ago.
